Improvisation Workshops

Jazz Ramble has covered improvisation workshops run at the Victorian Jazz Archive headquarters in Wantirna. These sessions were designed for musicians who already had basic proficiency on their instrument and a working knowledge of scales and arpeggios.

Course Levels

Two streams were offered to suit different age groups and experience levels:

• Under 25s — tailored for younger players building their improvisational vocabulary.
• Over 25s — aimed at adult musicians looking to deepen their jazz language and ensemble skills.

What You Need

Participants were expected to arrive with:

• Proficiency on their chosen instrument
• Familiarity with major and minor scales and arpeggios
• A willingness to improvise in a group setting

These workshops provided a supportive environment for musicians to explore jazz improvisation under experienced guidance, drawing on the rich resources of the Victorian Jazz Archive.
